iPhone OS 4.0: Over 100 New Features

Apple is preparing to release the latest version of their iPhone OS software used on their iPhone and iPod Touch models. This update promises many new features for consumers, including many enhancements for features already used in the OS, such as photo, video, and camera applications. One of the most demanded new features, OS 4.0 boasts multitasking. Yes, finally, you can do basic tasks such as surfing the web while running other apps in the background. Game Center also promises to attract online players for games, with a new achievement system similar to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live achievements. Through this system, Apple hopes to revolutionize how multi-player games are played on the iPod and iPhone.
According to Apple, there are more than 100 new changes for the new OS. Here are a few of the more significant updates:

- More stable Wi-Fi connection
- Added calendar features
- Recent web searches in Safari
- 5x Digital Zoom for iPhone
- Enhancements for creating playlists
- Search from SMS inbox and outbox on iPhone
- Send gift applications to friends and family
- Bluetooth wireless keyboard compatibility
- Folder storage and search
- Home screen customization
Developers are not left out, as new software development kits will be available to take full advantage of the new capabilities of the OS, including the beta version for testing.
iPhone OS 4.0 will be shipping with all new models beginning this summer. Current iPhone and iPod Touch users will need to perform a software update in order to take advantage of the new available features.
