Apple Now World's Largest Tech Company; What Does This Mean for Us?

Just three days ago, May 26th, 2010, Apple overtook Microsoft as the largest technology company in terms of market value. This is not exactly the biggest surprise, due to the soaring popularity of Apple products such as its lineup of iPod models, iPhone, the recently introduced iPad, and Mac computers. But what does this mean for the industry as a whole?

If you haven't already noticed, society has taken a huge interest in mobile devices. This is most likely where most of the largest leaps and innovations will be made over the next decade or so. Wireless web and data access is becoming widespread in places all over the world, and netbooks and tablet computers have taken their side along laptops as the alternative to home desktop PCs. Smartphones are no longer for the businessman anymore, as teens and young adults have all taken to having the internet in your pocket. The compatibility with mobile applications for social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter have driven many of these sales.

Now that mobile technology is becoming far more popular than ever before, larger companies such as Google and Microsoft should continue to put the pressure on Apple. Competing companies will lead the industry to new innovations tomorrow that we could not even imagine today.
